Frequently Asked Questions - Uploading Video FAQ

Yes, that is a format by Adobe, and the QSU supports it. Thanks!

If you feel like your upload has stalled, it might be wise to simple stop the upload and try again. The easiest way to do this is to simply click on your browser's "reload" button. That will clear the upload form and allow you to try again. You should verify that your file is OK, it shouldn't be longer than around 50 MB. Also, make sure the file type is .mov, .wmv, or .flv which are our supported file types. Finally, be sure you haven't put any spaces or special characters in the file name.

Occasionally a problem occurs where your upload has actually failed for some reason, but your browser was not notified. We are working to fix this problem. In the meantime, if a video has taken more than 5-10 minutes to load, chances are that you have stumbled upon the problem. Most people upload at around 500 Kbps, which means about 3.8 MB per minute. So if you have a 10 megabyte file, it should take about 3-4 minutes to upload. If you have been waiting longer, chances are there is problem.

There is a bug in the software (it should be repaired when we install our next set of fixes) that causes this message to repeat even after you have corrected the file name. You can work around this (until we fix this), by "reloading" the upload page which clears the fields and allows you to start fresh.

Qbert has requested you keep the Master Class submission videos around 2 minutes. The idea is to give him just enough so he can see and comment on what you are doing. You can upload videos to your "My Student Page" for longer performances (Q watches those too!)

Hi all! Welcome to the Submit Video Center. Here's some quick guidance that should make it easier for you to upload files.

  1. Maximum size to submit is 50MB.
  2. If you use a Mac, create an .mov file (you can use iMovie).
  3. If you use a Windows computer, create an .wmv (you can use Windows Movie Maker).
  4. You can also send an .flv file (Adobe Flash video).
  5. Make sure you have good light when you make your video.
  6. If you have a movie or video in a different format, you will need to convert it to either .mov or .wmv before you upload it. Watch this space for more information about this.
  7. We are working on expanding the kinds of videos we will accept.
  8. Once you upload your video, it goes into a holding "queue" for for DJ Qbert and his staff. He and his staff will watch you video and provide some feedback to you and the other QSU students.
  9. If you have a video pending, you will see it listed on the "My QSU" bar on the right of every page. You'll see "Vids awaiting Qbert".
  10. When Qbert or his staff have responded, you'll get a notification on the "MY QSU" bar as well.
  11. You can go to the Master Class area to see Qbert's feedback to other students.
  12. You can go to other students' "My QSU" pages and see all of their Master Class submissions.
