QBERT SKRATCH UNIVERSITY SPEEDS UP LEARNING BY SLOWING DOWN QBERT
Napa, CA – ArtistWorks, Inc. (AWI) responds to student protests at the Qbert Skratch University and issues a cutting class elective with the addition of “slow motion” lessons for enrolled students from around the hip hop globe.
Qbert Skratch University is a video based instruction site where DJs around the world learn to skratch through video exchanges with Qbert. Recently the Video Management System has been upgraded so that when students upload a personal video to their Student Page (and they do this often) the entire QSU community is notified on the Home Base by placing the Student's name at the top of the list of Recent Demo videos. This upgrade improves the already vibrant community that's steadily growing at QSU.
A Boston Globe story ran today (November 8) highlighting the exciting boom in online music instruction. The story prominently featured Artistworks' banjo school master teacher Tony Trishcka and noted the stable of artists Artistworks has assembled: jazz guitarists (Jimmy Bruno and Andreas Oberg, pianist (Christie Peery), harmonica player (Howard Levy), skratch artist (DJ Qbert).
Jesse Hernandez of Vinyl Addiction—new urban art form involving vinyl creations—told tubefilter.tv in an interview today that one of his upcoming interviews for Vinyl Addiction will be with DJ Qbert. We'll have the interview when it comes up. Meanwhile, here is Hernandez talking about the art phenomenon. click here to go to the Jesse Hernandez interview link
Check out the amoeba.com "What's in My Bag" interview with Qbert. The segment talks to artist celebrities shopping at Amoeba Racks. Qbert explains how he looks for albums with a "weird" factor that he can skratch for cutting, beat sound effects, remixing and more.
Qbert says he's at amoeba looking for more spacey or psychedelic or brain entrainment stuff. Take a look. Very, very interesting.
In ignmusic.com's October 19th story by Brian Linder DJ Qbert was included as among the 11 most influential DJs under a sub-headline of "These Masters of the Turntables Change the Music Scene Forever." In the article, DJ Qbert is the ninth one down - the DJs are listed alphabetically. Click here to view the article.
Inside Qbert at QSU series: In an interview with Qbert on Monday night, Oct 12th, Qbert told the story of how he may be involved in the upcoming DJ Hero 2 game. “I went to the release party for DJ Hero in San Francisco, and was meeting all the developers and producers. Right there at the party they started talking about bringing me in for the DJ Hero 2 as it would be turntablist based. I am not sure how this idea got out into the news media. I think it’s a synchronistic opportunity and hopefully it will work out. We’ll see what happens.”
